During a visit by the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall to the Doctor Who studios at Roath Lock in Cardiff, costume designer Howard Burden revealed some new bits of info about the Doctor Who 50th Anniversary Special. According to The Telegraph, Burden states that Hurt will play a “dark Doctor," adding:“There was a gap between Paul McGann playing the Doctor and Christopher Eccleston, when we didn’t see a regeneration, and John Hurt will fit into that gap. He is a past Doctor, not a future Doctor.”
